About Peñasco Valley Telecommunications

President Franklin D. Roosevelt established the Federal Communications Commission in 1934. The goal was to make "available, so far as possible, to all the people of the United States a rapid, efficient, nationwide wire and radio communications service with adequate facilities at reasonable charges... ". However, it was not until the passage of the Telephone Amendment to the Rural Electrification Act in 1949 that allowed dedicated farmers and ranchers to create the Peñasco Valley Telephone Cooperative, Inc., and bring this service to our remote area.

Our service area represents an expensive and time-consuming challenge. From desert plains to tall mountains, the sparsely populated region covers more than 4,500 square miles, and in most cases, this beautifully rugged terrain would never have had service without the creation of a telephone cooperative.

The principle difference between cooperative and stock companies is in ownership and participation. All cooperative customers are members with voting privileges. This allows them to elect Directors to represent their interests. Cooperative annual income creates equity (capital) and funding for development.

PVT's impressive success is based upon the independent spirit and quality of its Directors, Management and Employee team - The PVT Family.
