PVT Sponsors Cloudcroft Student for Washington DC Trip
15 May 2006, Artesia, New Mexico – Peñasco Valley Telecommunication (PVT) is sponsoring a Cloudcroft student on an educational trip to Washington, D.C., June 3 – June 7, 2006 to attend the twelfth annual Foundation for Rural Service (FRS) Youth Tour.
Representing PVT is John Wolf Gray, a junior at Cloudcroft High School. Gray said, “This will be an awesome trip. I can hardly wait to meet the other students and see the historical sites.” Cloudcroft senior Chris Davis represented PVT on the 2005 FRS Youth Tour.
The youth tour will introduce the telecommunications industry to students from rural America within a legislative context. Aside from the educational aspects of this trip, students also will have the opportunity to tour many of the historical sites in the nation’s capital.
The trip will feature a comprehensive overview of the telecommunications industry, including careers in telecom, the critical role telecommunications plays in rural America, and how legislative and regulatory decisions affect the industry.
This year, Gray will be one of 110 high school juniors from throughout rural communities in the United States. Students arrive in Washington, D.C. for a four-day, educationally and culturally enriching experience.
The tour will allow youth to meet with members of Congress who represent rural constituents. They will also participate in educational sessions about the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the Rural Utilities Service (RUS) and more. Students visit some of the nation’s most
historic sites, including the Vietnam, Korean and World War II memorials, the Supreme Court, the Smithsonian Museums, Arlington National Cemetery and the Lincoln and Jefferson memorials.
Sending students to Washington, D. C. and exposing them to cultural and educational experiences, such as the FRS Youth Tour, is one way that PVT adds to the educational growth of the families we serve.
