Here’s how to get SmartTown working on macOS

SmartTown is community WiFi that moves with you. Whether you’re at the park, downtown, or cheering on the Bulldogs, your phone connects automatically, without logging in, avoiding sketchy guest networks. It’s powered by PVT Internet and built with top-tier security, so your connection is fast, private, and safe.

Most public WiFi is open and unsecured. SmartTown is different. It’s private, encrypted, and built just for our community. It uses a secure tech called Passpoint to connect your device automatically so there is no need to log in every time. And it’s backed by PVT Protect, so your data stays yours.

Nope. SmartTown runs on its own lane. Your home or business internet stays just as fast as always. We’ve set it up so your connection gets priority.

Not a chance. SmartTown runs on a completely separate connection. No one can see or access your personal or business network.

Nope again. SmartTown is part of our investment in the community. There’s no extra charge, and it doesn’t count against your data.

Nope. You’re not on the hook for anyone else’s online behavior. SmartTown keeps track of who’s connected and what they’re doing, so if there’s ever an issue, we can trace it back to the right person. You just keep doing you while we’ve got the rest.

You won’t have to troubleshoot a thing. If there’s ever a hiccup, our local support team is on it. Just give us a call and we’ll take care of it.

Not at all. SmartTown runs on its own separate setup, so your personal or business Wi-Fi stays smooth and steady. No interference, no slowdowns, just more connection for everyone.

We’d love for you to be part of this community-powered network, but it’s totally your call. If you’d rather opt out, just give our tech support team a ring.

It’s a one-time setup, then you’re good to go.
Here’s how it works:
  1. Visit our secure SmartTown sign-up page.
  2. Accept the terms and download the Passpoint profile.
  3. That’s it—your phone will now connect automatically anytime you’re near a SmartTown hotspot.
No more logging in. No more hunting for passwords. Just seamless, secure WiFi wherever you roam.

Passpoint is the magic behind SmartTown’s automatic connection. It’s a secure tech standard that lets your phone recognize and join trusted WiFi networks without you lifting a finger. Once it’s set up, your device just knows where to go.

Most newer phones, tablets, and laptops are ready to roll with SmartTown. Here’s how to check if yours is good to go:
If you’ve got an Android phone (Android 11 or newer):
Head to Settings > Connections > Wi-Fi > Advanced Settings and look for something called Hotspot 2.0. If it’s there, you’re all set to download the Passpoint profile using Chrome.
Using an iPhone or iPad (iOS 13 or newer):
Open Settings > Wi-Fi and make sure “Ask to Join Networks” is set to “Ask” or “Notify.” Then use Safari to download the profile. Once it’s installed, your device will connect automatically when you’re near SmartTown.
On a Windows laptop (Windows 10 or newer):
Go to Settings > Network & Internet > Wi-Fi > Known Networks and look for the SmartTown network. If you see it, you’re good to go.
Using a Mac (macOS 10.15 or newer):
Open Settings > Wi-Fi and make sure “Ask to Join Networks” is turned on. Then use Safari to download the profile and you’re all set.
First, check the basics:
  • Is your Passpoint profile installed?
  • Is Wi-Fi turned on?
  • Are you near a SmartTown hotspot?
Still stuck? Try this:
  • Make sure your device supports Passpoint (see the chart above).
  • Use a strong Wi-Fi or cellular connection to download the profile.
  • Turn off ad blockers or browser extensions during setup.
  • If you see a green banner, refresh and try again.
  • If you see a red banner, your security token expired. Re-authenticate and download again.
Still not working? Give us a call. We’ll get you connected.

If you’re a PVT Internet subscriber, you can connect to SmartTown.
To share your connection as part of the network, your router needs to one of our Gigaspire routers. If you’re not sure if this is the type of router you have, give us a shout and we’ll check.
