The Broadband Booster Pilot Project is a plan to provide Broadband services in the homes of students who cannot otherwise afford the service. Broadband services are an important tool for students in their efforts to pursue a quality education. New Mexico ranks near last on broadband services in households and nearly first in percentage of children in poverty. Education has been an avenue out of poverty and providing proper tools is important to success in education.

Broadband in New Mexico

New Mexico is a large state with a relatively small population. Population density effects both the cost of broadband services and its availability, especially in rural areas. As broadband becomes more of a necessity than a luxury, it is important to find ways of making it more affordable to New Mexicans who find themselves economically challenged. PVT serves rural Southeastern New Mexico and continues to make strides in providing higher speed internet services while providing price reductions to all of our customers. PVT also recognizes that in some cases these price reductions do not go far enough.

Broadband Booster Pilot Plan

The plan will be to offer discounts of 50% on the lowest offered speed to qualified households of students who do not have broadband in their homes. In addition, we will waive installation costs and deposits. This represents a monthly price of between $17 and $21 per month. For those who need further help we will set up programs to reduce the cost even further – potentially the entire cost.

Qualifying for the Program

  • A student (kindergarten to 12th grade) must reside in the home qualified for discounted service under the Broadband Booster Program. The qualifying student can be attending public, private or home school.

  • PVT reserves the right to determine qualification for the program and may determine additional criteria as the program is developed and deployed.

  • Individuals may be interviewed to determine qualification and/or site visits may be required.

It takes a village

PVT will be reaching out to the community to help support the program.

PVT is committed to absorbing the reduced cost of the service, but needs help covering the cost of installation as well as further reductions in the price of the service. To this end, PVT will be reaching out to its customers to see if they are willing to contribute a small amount in addition to their monthly bill.

PVT will also reach out to businesses and nonprofit organizations along with federal, state and local government entities to seek additional help.
